About OSI Flow

The OSI (Open Systems Interconnect) model is a conceptual framework that standardizes the functions of a communication system into seven abstraction layers. Each layer provides services to the layer above and consumes services from the layer below.

As data travels downward (encapsulation), each layer adds its own headers and trailers. As data travels upward (decapsulation) at the receiving end, those headers are stripped away, revealing the original payload.
